The Windshield Shop · Calgary, Alberta
Privacy Policy
Effective October 9, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how The Windshield Shop (we, us, our) handles personal information when you use thewindshieldshop.ca, contact us, request a quote or appointment, review a quote, or receive vehicle services. We are responsible for personal information under our control and handle it in accordance with applicable privacy law, including Alberta’s Personal Information Protection Act.
1. Information we collect
We collect information you give us, information generated as we serve you, and limited information from your use of the website:
- Contact and request details: your name, phone number, email address, preferred way to be contacted, requested service, notes and messages, and any preferred appointment or drop-off date.
- Vehicle and service details: year, make, model, vehicle identification number (VIN) when required to identify replacement glass, glass location and damage, camera or driver-assistance features, payment preference (such as self-pay or insurance), and service-specific details you provide about rust, previous treatments, protective film coverage or other requested work. We may add inspection findings, quotes, selected services, authorizations, booking details and service history.
- Communications: enquiries, quote and booking responses, emails, texts, delivery status and related records. If you contact us by phone, we may record notes about your request; this policy does not represent that calls are recorded.
- Website and advertising information: limited page and action counts, a short-lived anonymous quote journey identifier, browser and device information available to website and analytics providers, and, if you arrive through an ad or campaign, Google click identifiers (gclid, gbraid or wbraid), campaign tags and the landing page. We do not put your name, contact details, VIN or form answers in our own funnel events.
Please provide only information relevant to your request. Do not send payment card numbers, driver’s licence images, medical information or an insurance policy number through the website’s free-text fields. If another person owns the vehicle or is named in information you provide, make sure you are authorized to share it.
2. How we use information
We use information to identify suitable glass and services; respond to enquiries; assess a vehicle and prepare or revise a quote; arrange, confirm, change and complete work; communicate about a request or appointment; support an insurance-related enquiry where you ask us to; keep service and business records; prevent duplicate or abusive submissions; secure and operate the website; and understand which website pages and campaigns lead to enquiries and confirmed bookings. We do not use a quote request as a sign-up for promotional email or text messages. We would obtain any consent required by law before sending marketing messages.
The shop may use an ad click reference associated with a request to measure whether an enquiry leads to a staff-confirmed booking. The current website does not automatically submit your name, email, phone number or VIN to Google Analytics as part of that measurement. If we materially change these purposes, we will give appropriate notice and obtain consent where required.
4. Website technologies and analytics
The quote form saves an unfinished draft, including any details you enter, in your browser’s session storage so you can continue in the same tab. After submission, the private request link includes an access key. Anyone with that link can view request and quote details; keep it private and use a trusted device. You can clear the draft through your browser’s site-data controls. Clearing browser data does not delete a request already sent to us.
We use first-party session storage to remember allowlisted ad click and campaign information for up to 30 days within the same browser tab, and a short-lived identifier to measure movement through the quote steps. Our own site metrics count specified page visits and actions without sending form answers, VIN or contact details in those events. Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signals suppress these browser-side journey and attribution features.
On most public site pages, Microsoft Clarity may collect interaction, heatmap and session-recording information to help us improve the site. The private quote flow does not load Clarity. The October 2026 rustproofing and undercoating offer page also uses Google Analytics to measure visits and confirmed enquiry submissions; its events are configured without names, contact details or vehicle details. These providers may use cookies or similar technologies and collect technical data under their own policies. Browser settings can limit cookies or site storage; Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control suppress the Clarity and offer-page Google Analytics tags on this site. See the Microsoft Privacy Statement and Google Privacy Policy.
5. Retention and security
We retain customer and service records only as long as reasonably needed for the purposes described above, including follow-up, warranty or dispute handling, accounting, legal obligations and legitimate business records. Retention periods vary by record type. We delete or de-identify information when it is no longer required, subject to applicable law and practical backup cycles. Access controls, restricted staff access and other reasonable safeguards are used according to the sensitivity of the information. No internet service can guarantee absolute security.
6. Your choices and rights
You may ask about the personal information we hold about you, request access or correction, or withdraw consent for a future use where the law permits. We may need to verify your identity and may retain information required for legal or business purposes. Withdrawing consent needed to manage an active request may limit our ability to continue it. To stop service text messages, reply STOP where available or call us; if a message is time-sensitive, call the shop directly. You may also raise a privacy concern with the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta.
7. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as our services and practices change. The effective date above shows the current version. Material changes will be communicated as required by law.
8. Contact us
